What Is It?

Our own hostel.

Which is conveniently opposite our own bar. Which is all conveniently located in the centre of Barcelona. We love this city, it's why we live here, why our offices are here and why we really want to show you around here.

If you just want a bed, we can do it. If you want to combine the bed with a walking tour and an hour of power (and we're not talking about a gymnasium session we mean drinking drinks for an hour, as many as your pretty little face can handle) then we can do that too. If you want lunch and dinner, and an awesome bike tour as well as everything we said above, and nightclub entry and a pubcrawl, well guess what? We can do that too.

Come and join us in the wonderful city we call home.

 

Location

 

Beautiful Barcelona.

This is the best city in the world. There, we said it, but we really feel like it is! It's artistic, there's an amazing youth scene, people skateboard everywhere, the place is covered in babes, and it really knows how to party.

It's also as artistic as a guy in a smock, the architecture will knock your socks off and the street art is grrrrreat.

The beach here is home to more delightful flesh bags than a Beirut butchers, the weather is very rarely cloudy, let alone rainy, and the place is home to the mighty FCBarcelona, the greatest sporting team Macguyver ever put on the face of the earth.

Remember the 1992 olympics? They were held here! How awesome is that!? You were probably about 4 at the time or something. Maybe you weren't even born. In any case, coming to Barcelona can help you relive your childhood! Thumb sucking goodness! 

How To Get Here?

 

On a plane man.

They fly here from all the cities of the world. Fly to either Barcelona, Girona or Reus. Get onto skyscanner to check them air birds out (what other kinds of birds are there? Oh...).

On the train dude.

The Spanish train service is called Renfe, check them out!

Or by bus.

Because they all go here too. Some great companies that make bus journeys to and from Barcelona are Alsa and Eurolines.

Or even boat.

What Is It?

 

The perfect mix of sports and shots.

We love it in Andorra! Not only is it just up the road from our offices in Barcelona, but the snow there is simply wonderful and the fact that the principality is a tax free haven makes our favorite passtime, partying, as cheap as, well, as cheap as us after a big night of partying.

 The trip departs Barcelona on Friday afternoon. After a two hour drive we find ourselves mitts deep in the Pyrenees just in time to dump our bags in the hotel and hit the bars for dinner, drinks and some inappropriate dancing.

The next morning we drag our sorry asses out of bed and hit the slopes, the alpine air makes for the perfect hangover cure and a day on the slopes being just what the doctor ordered, if your doctor was cool as berets. That night Stoke Travel is buying the dinner and maybe even a round of shooters, before we again stomp our way to dance floor glory around Andorra's many bars, chances are this one will be a late one.

 

We're up bright and early again on the Sunday for one last day of shredding before heading back to Barcelona in the evening. We're going to be tired, we're going to be sore, we're going to be hungover but by golly are we going to happy as a crabby patty.

 

The Mountains.

We slide all over the slopes of two resorts Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalis.

An often overlooked Pyrenean treasure.

Squeezed in between Spain and France high in the Pyrenees Andorra is usually omitted from most travelers itineraries. Well it shouldn't be! It's right next to Barcelona, so beautiful your eyes will weep snow flakes. Tax free snow flakes!

That's right, Andorra is tax free, so drinking, smoking and pornography is cheaper here than in other European countries. Hooray!

To get there you want to get to Barcelona, and we'll do the rest. By golly golly bliss bombs it's that easy!

How To Get Here?

 

It's a bird. No, it's a plane dummy.

Wherever you are in the world you can fly to Barcelona. Ryanair and Easyjet, the perennial budget favorites for your comfort shirking tight asses pals down here at Stoke Travel, both fly here regularly. One thing to remember is that the Girona terminal, where Ryanair fly, is an hour by bus from downtown Barcelona.

 

 

Good old fashioned rail travel.

A great option if you're coming to Barcelona from elsewhere in Spain, or from France. Check out www.renfe.es for trains from within Spain and www.sncf.com for those departing within France.

What Is It?

 

Morocco.

What's not to like? Year 'round sun, world class waves, a local chef whipping up your every meal, sunrises over the Sahara and sunsets over the Atlantic, panoramic ocean views from our roof top terrace, after surf beers, wacky tobaccy in your shisha pipe.

And that's just the half of it!

Our packages are for everyone, from the seasoned scaly sea dog to those who simply want to wet their toes and sun their bellies. Our instructors specialise in teaching absolute beginners how to find their feet, and for taking those who want to step it up a bit to the multitude of world class waves dotted around this peninsular (you can see three of them from our terrace).

The basic 25 euro a day package is for bed and breakfast. This is perfect for those with their own boards, the independent souls amongst us. Throw onto that some meals (have you even TASTED Moroccan food? Soooo good!) a surf lesson each day and some board hire and the 50 euro, no more to worry about, package is the one for you. Alls you need to do is get your flight down there (and we even help you sort that!)

 

 

City and Surf Tour.

(Trips run Thursday/Friday until Sunday/Monday but if want us to be flexible you know that we can)

The best of all worlds. Fly into Marrakech and be met at the airport by our legendary guide, spend a night in this famous North African city in a hotel by the main square, the world famous Djemaa el Fna, shop until you drop and then shop some more, bath yourself in a traditional bath house (we'd love to say that nudity is optional, but sometimes it just aint. When in Marrakech...) and eat dinner surrounded by snake charmers.

The next day we set off along the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains to the coast. This short drive takes us through some truly breathtaking landscapes where the 30 degree desert heat is complimented by the high snow capped mountains to the south. One of the world's greatest short drives. Upon our arrival in Taghazoute, surf city Morocco, we'll go for a surf. Then we'll lay in the sun. Then we'll go home and smoke some shisha and drink some beers and talk some surf style jazz amongst ourselves until we decide it's time to either a) go to bed, b) start a beach party, or c) head into rocking Agadir for a night on the tiles. In any case we'll be having one whale of a time.

Once we wake up we wash the cobwebs away with coffee and massive breakfast before hitting the waves again. Then we pack it all and head to Marrakech, so we can get our flights back to the real world, loaded with souvenirs, sun tans and an addiction to surfing that will last forever.

 On the edge of the Sahara.

 

Whilst you can see Morocco from the cities of Southern Spain, once you're on the ground you'll realise that you couldn't be further away... In a wonderful way!

 

This is North Africa baby! This is a place of camels and forts and snake charmers. Where date palms grow out of sandy deserts, and kids run up to your car snotty faced asking for sweet, sweet candy.

 

Our surf palace is located in the south of Morocco, in the village of Taghazoute, near the resort city of Agadir. An area so lovely the King of Morocco has his beach palace down there. Here the High Atlas Mountains complete their run down to the North Atlantic Ocean, where goats reside in trees and where fishermen make their nightly drift out to the horizon on seaworthy car tyre inner tubes.

 

Taghazoute is a stereotypical North African fishing village, with a serious of narrow lanes winding either side of the one road, Highway 1, which runs through it's middle and provides the villages central focal point. Along this road there are a handful of shops, a market place and mosque and a few hotels. You can walk through Taghazoute along Highway 1 from end to end in about 5 minutes, which is taking into account stopping to pat cats and high five locals.

 

The Stoke Travel Surf Palace is located just off Highway 1. Whilst from the outside it looks identical to the houses surrounding it, tall and narrow and salmon in colour, but once inside you will realise that it is very, very different. The palace is populated with sun worshipers and surf rats from every corner of the globe, and they can be found lounging in one of the four indoor common areas, or slothing about on the roof top terrace. There is a combination of shared and private accommodation, though most nights you'll pass out on the terrace with the ever-clear North African night sky twinkling away above you...

 

 

*A note on the terrace: Because it deserves it. This terrace is amazing and is definitely the focal point of the house. This is where we eat, drink tea, share stories, chug beers and smoke hookah. This is the place where you can play a game of chess or kiss a beautiful stranger. We BBQ up here, we surf the net, we sloth around and we dry our wetsuits. From this terrace you can check the surf at three of Morocco's best breaks, from this terrace the sunset will burn so bright and beautiful your eyes will bleed, from this terrace the sounds of a Moroccan fishing village will drift up and mingle with chatter from all around the world. This is the terrace.

How To Get Here?

 

 Come fly to us...

 

This is really the only practical way to get here. Because it's on another continent fool! (Unless you live in Africa, thereby making us the fool) Anyway, to get here grab a flight to either Agadir, which is the airport nearest the surf palace, or to Marrakech, which is also close-ish and usually cheaper, and with more frequent flights.

 

The airlines we usually fly with are Ryanair, Easyjet and Royal Air Maroc. Like with most of these trips the earlier you book the cheaper it will be. So book now homegirl!

If you are flying to Agadir we will preorder a taxi for you. They don't cost the earth, especially when you are traveling in a group (and we'll let you know if anyone else on your flight is coming to the palace so y'all can share).

If you land in Marrakech you can either prearrange a taxi to take you to the Surf Palace, or make your own was here on the public bus (see details below). In any case we'll go through all of this with you in person when you book.

 

 

 

 

 

Once you land you might need to take the bus.

 

CTM and Supratours run frequent buses from Marrakech to Agadir. The trip takes about two and a half hours and costs a measly ten euros. When you land grab a cab, a petite taxi, and head to the terminal. (They leave from different terminals, choose one and tell your cab driver, they both go often).

There's no need to book a ticket in advance, and even if you needed to you couldn't. This is North Africa dudes. Just go with the Berber flow. 

Once in Agadir take a taxi to Taghazoute, the surfing village. And once in Taghazoute ask for Stoke Travel, or Adventure Keys (our name in Moroccan). It's too easy.

Is Morocco Safe?

Yes. The most dangerous thing in Morocco is coming across an angry goat after you've had too many cans of Stork beer, or underestimating the strength of the wacky tobaccy in your hubbly bubbly pipe.

 

Aren't there Muslims in Morocco?

Yes. Many. Nearly everyone. And they are lovely, except when they have to go to the mosque at 5am and the loud speakers act as the town's alarm clock.

 

I heard alcohol was illegal in Morocco, is that true?

Ha, hahaha, oh god, you guys are cracking me up! Do you think we'd be down there if that was true? Oh my oh my, too funny!

 

What's the weather going to be like?

We're on the edge of the Sahara so it's going to be hot and sunny during the day and a little chilly at night. It never rains, except when it rains, which is exceptional.

 

So what should we bring?

Yourself, something to swim in, something to party in, something warm for the night times, something pleasant for the fuzzy tingle times. Bring sunscreen and condoms, because they're hard to get here, and bring a bottle of spirits as they cost a bit down here. Bring a camera so you can get shots of goats in trees.

 

Wait. What? Goats in trees?

Yeah, in Morocco the goats hang out in the trees. It's pretty sweet.

 

And food, what's up with the food?

Breakfast is cereals and bread with cheese, jam and chocolate spread, coffee and tea and juice, usually. Though like all wonderful things in this universe it can change. Lunch is a sandwich made with love and served on the beach. And by sandwich we're talking long, strong and full of cumin. And other delicious ingredients. And some fruit. Mmm mmm. Dinner varies between a fair few Moroccan faves, like tagine, or cous cous (so good they named it twice) or little fish fried to delightfulness, or massive BBQs with a little of everything, and it is always served with plenty of salad and bread and it's always so sweet.

 

But Stoke, i'm and attention seeker and I don't eat meat!

Don't worry there little one, there are plenty of vegetarian friendly options down here in Morocco. Get on it!

What Is It?

And that's it! This is one of the street festivals Spain is famous for, the only one this time of the year. If you've never witnessed a Spanish street festival you just have to check it out, and if you have, well then you've probably already booked.   Las Fallas is a festival to celebrate the coming of spring. It is a festival to wish a jubilant bon viaje to winter. And in Valencia they welcome/farewell seasons by building giant effigies and burning them to the ground, setting off fireworks (like everyone doing them everywhere) and, of course, drinking sangria and dancing in the streets.   Stoke Travel at Las Fallas set up a sweet, secure, beachside camp. We rage at the campsite with a BBQ dinner dance party that finishes with the die hards chilling on the beach. We charter buses to take us into town to party. Beachside  Camping.

As in, in a campsite which is near the beach. And this camping isn't Yogi Bear shit. We're not deep in the woods digging holes to poop in. No way. This is a secure site with muchos amenities, swimming pool, restaurant, shop and bar. This camping is five star, but it is camping. It's more about community and good times and less about sleeping on duck feathers.   We provide twin or triple share tents (singles available with a surcharge), complete with sleeping bags and mats. We also provide swinging common areas, an overworked dance floor, a tent dedicated to charging your phones and answering your queries, DJs, an open bar (5 euro surcharge = unlimited beer and sangria) and the amazing Stoke Travel crew setting up drinking games and generally encouraging misbehaviour.   Our campsite is just to the north of Valencia in the seaside resort town of Puzol (Puçol in Valencian). While it is only two streets behind the beautiful Mediterranean beaches of Valencia, our campsite is completely secure. So don't think you'll be leaving your valuables laying all the beach. Your stuff is safe with us!

Valencia has an international airport and you can fly there for peanuts from most European cities.   If you can't fly directly to Valencia, grab a flight to either Barcelona, Madrid or Sevilla and jump on one of our buses! And not only that, but the island itself is so beautiful that ancient mariners likened it to Miranda Kerr's butt in a swimming pool. It's mountainous, the water is as blue as a blue bird's denim shorts and let us not get started on the quality of humanity that's floating around there.

To witness them is to have lava poured through your heart and into you veins and down to your loins. It's like having baby frogs dance on your eyeballs chaperoned by the most elegant of teenage swans.

What Is It?

 

 

It's a cruise to the Italian Riviera.

Where we live the high life, experience the best of this ancient country. A trip where we learn, but not just about things but also about stuff. A trip where we enjoy ourselves in a very historic place...

Speaking of history...

Italy has plenty. This is the land that gave us Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael (pretty sure Splinter was Japanese though), of the Roman empire, of Pizza and pizza pie*, and of The Jersey Shore, or at least their ancestors. This place has his-tor-y.

Where we go, Genoa on the Italian Riviera, is the hometown of Chris Columbus, the kinda big deal that only discovered the New World (after people were already living there and the vikings had performed a raid or two, but let's not get mired down in details...). And not just that, but pesto too! Yes pesto and focaccia, all from the one city.

 

Yeah, as opposed to a bus trip, or a rail pass, we do all of our travel by sea. And traveling by sea is Neptune lovin' luxurious traveling getting around. This aint no tour like any you've done before, and we're sure you'll really dig it. From the cruise to Italy, to the ferry we take to the isolated seaside villages of Cinque Terre - when you're visiting Columbus' hometown you've just gots to do it by sea, right?

 

The boat.

We take an overnight cruise from Barcelona to Genoa, which is ultra lovely and a whole heap of fun. It's like the love boat, but with more bars, and maybe less real love. We should call it the lust boat, or the party boat. In any case it's by a long shot the most fun way to travel there...

Genoa.

More than just a pretty name. Genoa (Genova) is a beautiful old city, which buttresses the dwindling European Alps against the Mediterranean Sea. It's sprawling Old Town is the largest of its kind in Europe (which would mean in the world, non, I don't think too many other continents have overly old towns).

Chris Columbus learned his shit here, and the maritime tradition continues, making this Italy's most important port city. What does that mean to us? Well port cities usually encourage excessive spending, you know the P Diddy super yacht scene, so the nightlife here in Genoa is killer. So we can do the mazey old beautiful shit in the daytime, and the amazing beautiful people by night. 

 

Cinque Terre.

We take a day trip to the isolated villages of Cinque Terre (no roads here homeys) by boat. This place is so beautiful that you'll never want to leave. A combination of lifestyle, environment, architecture and people that will turn your eyeballs into love hearts and your love hearts into slow dancing teenage swans. After we fall in love with the place, and each other, we grab a delicious bite to eat (seafood anyone?) and we have a few wines, or beers, or tears of joy in shot glasses, and we head back to Genoa, vowing to return sometime very soon...

Going home is always difficult post holiday, but we have jobs and schools and real lives to go to. Fortunately for us we know we'll be back and fortunately for us we know we've fallen in love with yet another part of the world...
