what do you get: You've heard of La Tomatina, maybe you've already been, perhaps you're coming this year, at the very least it should be on your "fuck-it" (bucket) list. We go every year, and we love it. It's our fave. But it's even better than it may seem! That's because there are even more sweet festivals either side of the tomato fight. And some, us, would say they are better, of better than awesome is possible. On the night before the tomato fight the small town of Requena has its night of the year, a water and wine festival of unbelievable hedonistic proportions. And two nights after the tomato fight we party in Valencia, hitting up some of the best bars, clubs and, of course, street drinking like the locals do! Two necessities of human life. In the small town of Requena, on one night of the year, the whole town decides to throw both on each other in equal measure. And they party like you wouldn't believe throughout. But that's not all. First the whole town gathers in the mini-coloseum style bullring to watch foolhardy locals and a handful of tourists try their luck with some agile, violent, young bulls. And they play some music, and they let of some fireworks. And everyone basks in the merriment. Then the party hits the streets, with people in trucks throwing wine onto people and inside their mouths, and everyone dances and has a great old time. And then the old biddies that live in the streets turn hoses onto us all, and people pour water from their buildings and everyone kisses everyone and they dance in the street and it's pretty clear that we're doing something wonderful... Once it's all done we go home (the lucky ones don't make it home, if you get our drift...) and we sleep for a few moments and we get up to throw TOMATOES at each other. But that's a different story. This one is really something else. There's a tiny village just outside Valencia that shuts off its streets one night of the year and turns on a giant fancy dress party. Last year they were saying 40 000 people were dressing humorously and dancing in the streets. Whatevs the number, alls we know is that it was such a good time we'd call it a whale of a time. You know what fancy dress means in the streets of Spain? Young ladies dressing as sexily as they can and young men showing their muscles. And in there we can find something that appeals to just about everybody... It means that you can experience so much more by coming to La Tomatina with Stoke Travel. It means that you can kill three birds with the one bottle of sangria. It means that you can see a side to Spain that is off the tourist trail. The trip price includes accommodation (twin share tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat), hot breakfasts every morning, a BBQ dinner every second night, transfers to all the festivals, free Stoke Travel t-shirt, guides at the festivals, free entry to the Stoke Travel ketchup party. But it all goes down in the region around Valencia. Requena and Buñol, where they hold the Water and Wine Festival and La Tomatina respectively, are both about an hour from Valencia city. The fancy dress party goes down near our campsite, which is just up the road, on the coast, from the city. Our camp is beachside. It's not wild in the slightest, with full-time security, a bar, restaurant and shop onsite, a great swimming pool with slide, clean amenities, great authentic Spanish atmosphere (it's not uncommon to be invited into a family's caravan for a meal of authentic local paella). And there is so much more to the region outside the festivities! Valencia has a wonderful old walled city, great modern architecture, clubs, restaurants, beaches, bars. It's just wonderful! stoke bus departs Placa Catalunya (outside Hard Rock Cafe) at 12 noon on August 28. Returns before 7pm September 1. Fly to Valencia and then make your way to our camp. A train will take you into the city centre (Estación del Norte) from the airport and another train from there to Puçol. From Puçol we pick you up, yeah buddy. Same deal. Estación del Norte is the main station. Just get a ride to there, jump on a local train to Puçol and we do the rest. Same. Just make sure you get a ride to Valencia and not somewhere else, like Palencia, which is on the other side of Spain, but presumably full of pals. You lucky devil you. The campsite is called Camping de Puçol (Puzol), so drive there dudes. Rock on! Three fiestas one trip.
