San Vino 2026: The Ultimate Haro Wine Fight Festival Guide & Packages
The locals call it “La Batalla de Vino de Haro.” We call it San Vino. As the original tour company for the Spanish Wine Fight, Stoke Travel is the only team brave enough to set up camp right in the heart of La Rioja.
Every year on June 29th, thousands of travelers head to the cliffs of Haro to take part in the world’s most chaotic wine fight. Our San Vino campsite (open June 26–30) serves as your base of operations for a week of vineyards, singing, and purple-tinted madness.
Choose Your Battle: San Vino 2026 Packages
Whether you’re in for a quick soak or a multi-day bender, we’ve got you covered with our new 2026 options:
The Full Experience (26-30 June): The all-in choice for the serious traveler. Includes 4 nights of camping, curated local tours, and over €270 in added value.
Fight Only (28-30 June): For the hit-and-run warriors. Get straight to the battle with 2 nights of essential transport, camping, and gear.
What’s Included in all of Stoke’s San Vino Packages:
🍷The Stoke Open Bar: Unlimited beer, wine, and sangria for just €15 per day
🍳🍾Bottomless brunch: a Cooked breakfast paired with endless mimosas every morning
💃 🥴 Festival Access: guided entry to the Haro Wine Fight and exclusive Stoke campsite parties
👫👭 Expert guides: Locals and legends to lead you into battle and through town’s street fiestas
Why “the full experience” is the best value:
When you book The Full Experience, you aren’t just paying for a tent; you’re unlocking the best of Spanish culture that most travelers have to pay for separately.
🥼Traditional Spanish Fiesta Outfit (Included – Save €40)🥼 You can’t show up to a wine fight in jeans. We provide the mandatory white-on-white kit with a red neckerchief so you’re battle-ready from day one.
🍷Bodega Tours & Wine Tastings (Included – Save €50)🍷 You’re in La Rioja, the wine capital of the world! We take you behind the scenes of world-class wineries (Bodegas) to taste the good stuff before we throw the cheap stuff.
💃Salsa and Sangria Dance Class (Included – Save €60)💃 Learn to move like a local. This isn’t just a dance class; it’s a boozy, high-energy session that is consistently rated the highlight of the week.
⛺Solo Tent Upgrade (Included – Save €120)⛺ Forget sharing a tent with a snoring stranger. The Full Experience gives you your own private sanctuary to crash in after the madness.
SAN VINO DIY: DO IT your way
Not everyone needs a guided tour or a salsa lesson to have a world-class time. If you’re a seasoned traveler who just needs a place to crash and a crew to drink with, our San Vino DIY Package is your best bet.
Starting from just €99 per night, the DIY option gives you the freedom to explore the vineyards on your own terms while still having access to the best campsite party in Haro.
⚠️A Note for the Bargain Hunters: While the DIY package is easy on the wallet upfront, remember that you’ll be paying “à la carte” for the essentials. By the time you add on your Open Bar, the Wine Fight shuttle, your festival outfit, and a wine tour, you’ll have spent way more than if you’d just booked The Full Experience.
Which one should you choose?
Choose “Fight Only” if… You’re on a tight schedule, traveling with a buddy, and just want to get in, get purple, and get out. It’s the essential, budget-friendly way to tick the Wine Fight off your bucket list.
Choose “The Full Experience” if… You want the ultimate Spanish summer holiday. If you were going to buy an outfit, do a wine tour, and pay for a solo tent anyway, this package pays for itself.
Choose the DIY Package if… You’re on a budget, you’re traveling in your own campervan, or you just want a solid basecamp in La Rioja without the full itinerary. You get the bed and the brunch; the rest of the adventure is up to you.
Experience La Batalla de Vino de Haro: Spain’s Epic Wine Fight
The Haro Wine Fight, known locally as La Batalla de Vino de Haro, is a bucket-list phenomenon that transforms the rolling hills of Northern Spain into a sea of purple every June. This isn’t just a festival; it’s a centuries-old tradition where thousands of travelers and locals converge to douse each other in thousands of liters of red wine.
Staying with Stoke Travel puts you in the center of the action. Our more-inclusive packages are designed to take the stress out of the chaos. We handle the essentials—entry into the battle, comfortable camping with pre-pitched tents, and a delicious daily brunch with bottomless mimosas—so you can focus on the fight. Between 10 am and 10 pm, our open bar serves unlimited beer, wine, and sangria, ensuring the party never stops even after the wine “ammunition” runs out.
The History & Tradition of the Spanish Wine Battle
The origins of the Wine Fight date back to a 13th-century land dispute between the town of Haro and its neighbor, Miranda de Ebro. To secure their territory, Haro’s officials were required to mark their borders with purple banners every year on San Pedro’s Day (June 29th).
According to legend, the formal marking of the boundary at the Cliffs of Bilibio eventually dissolved into a playful wine-throwing celebration. Today, the event has been declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest.
Don’t worry about the “waste”—the wine used in the battle is the surplus from the region that doesn’t meet the strict DOCa Rioja bottling standards. As it flows off the mountain, it acts as a natural fertilizer for the very vineyards that produced it. It’s an eco-friendly bender!

San Vino Camping: Your Rioja Basecamp
The Stoke Travel San Vino campsite is strategically located at the base of the hills, surrounded by the world-famous vineyards of La Rioja Alta. It’s the perfect place to prepare for battle and recover afterward.
Our campsite features an onsite pool—essential for washing off the purple stains—and a vibrant party atmosphere where you’ll meet hundreds of like-minded international travelers. We provide pre-pitched twin tents, high-quality sleeping mats, and sleeping bags, so you can arrive empty-handed and leave with a lifetime of memories.
A wine fight in La Rioja, Spain
Beyond the battle, Haro is the undisputed wine capital of Spain. The town is home to the famous Barrio de la Estación (The Station District), which boasts the highest concentration of century-old wineries in the world.
For lovers of Spanish vino tinto, this is your pilgrimage. During your stay, you’ll have the chance to visit iconic bodegas like Muga, CVNE, and Ramón de Bilbao. Whether you’re exploring the underground cellars or enjoying a sophisticated tasting in a local bar, the allure of Haro’s world-class red wine production is the perfect sophisticated balance to the morning’s wine-soaked madness.
Is the Wine Fight better than La Tomatina?
If you’re a fan of the world-famous La Tomatina tomato fight, then you already know that Spain is the undisputed heavyweight champion of messy festivals. But here’s the inside scoop: while everyone else is getting pelted with fruit in the August heat, the legends are in Haro every June for the San Vino Wine Fight.
We like to call it “Spain’s best-kept secret” for a reason. Here’s the breakdown:
📅JUNE vs. AUGUST📅 Why wait until the end of summer? The Haro Wine Fight kicks off the season on June 29th. It’s the perfect way to start your Spanish bender before the August crowds and the 40°C heat of Buñol hit.
🍷VINO OVER VEGGIES🍷 In Buñol, you’re covered in gazpacho. In La Rioja, you’re literally soaked in the world’s most famous red wine. It’s purple, it’s aromatic, and—let’s be honest—it’s much cooler to say you fought in a Spanish wine battle than a vegetable fight.
💃🏻AUTHENTICITY OVERLOAD💃🏻 La Tomatina is massive, but San Vino is where the locals come to play. It feels like an authentic Spanish fiesta because it is one. We’re talking about a centuries-old tradition on a hillside vineyard, not just a tourist trap.
♻️THE “ECO” EXCUSE♻️ Unlike the tomatoes, the wine we throw is the stuff that didn’t make the cut for bottling. As it flows down the Bilibio cliffs, it actually goes back into the earth to fertilize the next batch of grapes. It’s basically environmentalism, right?
⁉️THE VERDICT⁉️ If you want the madness of a Spanish food fight but with better weather, better drinks, and a more “if you know, you know” vibe, San Vino beats La Tomatina every time.

Getting to the Wine Fight
Our San Vino packages offer the flexibility to meet us in Haro or add one of our dedicated festival return transfers departing from Spain’s major hubs.
From Barcelona: The most popular route! If you’re starting in Barcelona, you’ve likely just survived the madness of San Juan (June 23rd). After a night of fireworks, beach bonfires, and enough Cava to sink a ship, there is only one logical next step: keep the momentum going by hopping on the Stoke Party Bus to Haro. It’s a scenic 5-hour drive through the Spanish countryside. Perfect for those staying at our Barcelona partner One Fam Hostels.
From San Sebastian: Just a short hop away. Our San Sebastian Surf House is the ideal pre-party spot before heading south to the Rioja wine region. It’s a 2.5-hour coach trip fueled by music, wine, and great company.
From Madrid: Take the Stoke Travel Party Bus for a direct, door-to-door connection from Madrid to our San Vino campsite. It’s the easiest way to travel, the best way to meet people, and saves you the hassle of navigating Spanish train schedules. Again, perfect for those staying at our partner One Fam Hostels.
If you wish to jump on one of these buses, make sure to add it to your booking or reach out to us and we’ll add it for you. Plus we have special accommodation deals with our hostel partners One Fam in Barcelona and Madrid if you arrive a few days earlier.
How to Make Your Own way to Haro & The Wine Fight
If you aren’t joining a Stoke Travel party bus from Barcelona or Madrid, there are several easy ways to reach the La Rioja region independently. We recommend using Omio to compare the best deals on flights, buses, and trains across Spain.
1. Flying into Northern Spain The two best airports for the Wine Fight are: ✈️ Bilbao Airport (BIO): The closest major hub. From the airport, take a shuttle to the Bilbao bus station (Intermodal), where direct buses run to Haro every few hours (approx. 1 hour). ✈️ Biarritz Airport (BIQ): Located just across the French border. It’s a great option for travelers coming from elsewhere in Europe. To get to San Sebastian from Biarritz Airport: 🚂By Train: Take the French SNCF train to Hendaye, then walk to the adjacent Euskotren station and catch a train to San Sebastian (approx. 40 mins). 🚌By Coach: A direct bus runs from Biarritz Airport to Hendaye via Saint-Jean-De-Luz (approx. 1 hour).
2. Traveling from San Sebastian to Haro Many travelers pair the San Sebastian Surf House with the Wine Fight. Final Leg: Once in San Sebastian, you can reach Haro-Donostia via a direct ALSA bus or Renfe train.
3. Traveling from Barcelonato Haro 🚂 By Train (RENFE): Grab a train from Barcelona Sants station heading towards Bilbao or Logroño. You’ll usually have to change in Zaragoza. It’s about a 4-5 hour journey—perfect for a nap or a couple of pre-game beers. 🚌 By Bus (ALSA): Regular buses run from Barcelona Nord station. It’s affordable, reliable, and gives you plenty of time to look out the window and contemplate your life choices before you turn purple.
4. Traveling from Madrid to Haro 🚂 By Train (RENFE): Head to Madrid Puerta de Atocha or Chamartín. There are direct trains and connecting routes through Miranda de Ebro (the town next door). The high-speed AVE will get you part of the way, making the trip roughly 3.5 to 4 hours. 🚌 By Bus (ALSA): Buses depart frequently from Avenida de América or the South Bus Station (Méndez Álvaro). It’s a direct shot north and usually the cheapest way to save your euros for the Stoke Open Bar. 🚗 Road Trip: If you’re driving, it’s a straight shot up the A-1. Just remember: parking in Haro during the Batalla del Vino is a nightmare, so aim to get to the Stoke campsite early to claim your spot.
If you accidentally trip and fall in a deep puddle of wine, the only other option apart from drowning is to drink your way to survival.

What should I bring?
Rate this trip
Sunglasses and sunscreen as it gets pretty hot, a pillow and torch for your tent, goggles, condoms, a waterproof camera, swimmers to have a dip in the pool afterwards, old shoes that can be thrown out after the madness, and shampoo if you don’t want your hair stained red for the next month. Oh and don’t forget a towel.

Are there hot showers to wash off my wine-stained body parts?
Rate this trip
Sí, there are showers at the campsite and we highly encourage a rinse off at the end of the day, before you climb in your tent and turn everything you touch purple. You’ll also smell like vinegar at this point which greatly decreases your chance of having someone join you in said purple tent.

What do I wear? Do I need goggles?
Rate this trip
The uniform is all white with a red neckerchief (pañuelo). You want to start as a blank canvas and leave looking like a bruised eggplant. Don’t wear anything you ever want to see again—between the wine stains and the chaos, your clothes are basically a one-way trip to the bin.
Stoke Pro-Tip: Grab The Full Experience package and we’ll have your traditional white outfit ready for you when you arrive!
Unless you enjoy the stinging sensation of acidic grape juice in your eyeballs for four hours—yes, bring goggles. Cheap swimming goggles or lab glasses are the MVPs of this festival. You’ll thank us when you’re the only person who can actually see who you’re squirting.

We always cater for vegetarians, so we can always just remove the animal-products and stuff you to the brim with fruits and veggies and starches…whatever we do, we’ll make a plan for you.

Is the Wine Fight a waste of good wine?
Rate this trip
Relax, wine lovers! We aren’t drenching each other in the vintage stuff. The wine used in La Batalla de Vino is the surplus “table wine” that didn’t meet the region’s strict DOCa Rioja bottling standards. Plus, as it runs off the Cliffs of Bilibio, it flows back into the ground to fertilize the very vineyards it came from. It’s basically a high-speed, purple recycling program.

Which is better, the Haro Wine Fight (San Vino) or La Tomatina?
Rate this trip
Both are legendary, but it depends on your vibe. La Tomatina (August) is the world’s biggest tomato fight, but it’s crowded and intense. San Vino (June 29th) is known as “Spain’s best-kept secret” because it’s more authentic, local, and happens in the world-class La Rioja wine region. While La Tomatina leaves you smelling like gazpacho, the Wine Fight leaves you soaked in glorious red vino. If you want a more boutique, traditional Spanish fiesta without the 40°C August heat, San Vino is the winner.

Can I join the Wine Fight if I’m traveling solo?
Rate this trip
100%. About half of the Wine Warriors at the Stoke campsite arrive solo. Between the open bar, the bottomless brunch, and the fact that everyone is covered in the same purple liquid, you’ll have a new “best friend” within twenty minutes of checking in.

What is the best way to get from Barcelona to the Wine Fight?
Can I travel from Madrid to Haro for the San Vino festival?

Yes, many travelers join us from Madrid via train or Stoke Travel’s dedicated festival coaches departing on 26 and 28 June.

Is there an age limit for San Vino?

While the Wine Fight is a traditional Spanish fiesta for all ages (you’ll see local grandpas with back-sprayers!), the Stoke Travel campsite is an 18+ environment. If you’re old enough to drink the wine, you’re old enough to throw it.

I went to San Vino with Stoke Travel last year and it was the best festival I have ever been to! The Stoke campsite is within walking distance to the street parties, which go all night, and it has a pool! We partied with the locals and got an authentic Spanish Fiesta experience. The festival itself was incredible! Stoke has buses going right up to the where the Wine Fight begins and then you can spend as long as you like there. I would definitely recommend this festival and Stoke Travel to anyone.
