The Zarautz Surf Camp is our little slice of paradise just outside of San Sebastian. It’s a combination of breathtaking landscapes (mountains and beaches), intriguing Basque culture, award-winning food, insane waves, and beautiful weather in which to enjoy it all.
Where else in the world are your primary concerns a) the temperature of your beer and b) trying not to get too much sun? Where each and every day is a cycle of eating, surfing and drinking, and the nights are spent partying it up in the streets of San Sebastian. Wake up surrounded by verdant hills and gorgeous coastal views, to the sound of rustling leaves and twittering birds at our Zarautz clifftop campsite. You’ll never want to leave!
Whilst surfing Zurriola in San Sebastian can be a super fun time, the real magic happens just along the coast in Zarautz – less people, and vastly superior waves, for beginners and shredders alike.
Summertime in Zarautz offers surfers with clean, fun waves in the 1-3ft range. Zarautz is an easy going beach break in summer with plenty of opportunities for new surfers to find their grip on the slow rolling waves. There’s always a few banks scattered along the 2.5km stretch, offering intermediate and highly experienced surfers fun running lefts and rights with some nice sections to perform manoeuvres. Winds are generally light, offshore in the mornings and from the NW during the day, allowing a nice organised lineup. During the summer there will be a few bigger swells that come through producing nice rippable walls on the mid to high tide.
Are you keen to run with the bulls at San Fermin, Pamplona? The Running of the Bulls festival officially starts on July 6 2020 and runs through until July 14 with daily Bull runs and nightly street parties. If you’d like to join us there for a few days to party and run screaming from ten-tonne-testosterone-tanked toros, just email us at info@stoketravel.com and we can add that to your booking, or checkout what’s on offer HERE.
Why not combine the surf life with the biggest festival San Sebastian hosts in the whole calendar year… Semana Grande translates into the “The Big Week” and that’s exactly what it is. A week of massive street parties with loads of concerts, from rock to pop to hip-hop to jazz, accompanied by the San Sebastian International Firework Competition in the picturesque seaside town on the coast of the Basque Country.
It’s perfectly timed and placed for you to head over from our camp and enjoy. Talk about convenient!
Holders may book Zarautz Beachside Surf Camp with 2nights or more from their Stoke Travel Passport. Unsure what the Stoke Travel Passport is? Check it out here! Your universe will change.
This is a guide itinerary with everything in the all-inclusive package. But the beauty of staying at the beach camp is that you can do whatever you like, whenever you like, your way.
Wake up to a delicious cooked breakfast whether it be pancakes, bacon and eggs or a ham and cheese omelette. Head to the beach to wash away the headaches (and mistakes) of the night before. A couple of hours of surfing, relaxing, soaking up the sun and playing beach games. After surfing hard we’ll brave that first icy cold beer of the day. There are tonnes of different activities in the surrounding region to keep everyone occupied. We can head into San Sebastian to its famous pintxos bars, go on free walking tours, go horse riding, paragliding, on wine tasting tours or simply head to the beach for more surfing, or enjoy the sunshine from our terrace in all its glory. Finish your afternoon activities with a cider on the hill, watching the sunset and then enjoy a big hearty dinner to line the stomach.
Surfing, volleyball, skateboarding, exploring the town, swimming, sun baking, fishing, cliff jumping, drinking beer, and much more.
Party nights in San Sebastian, movie nights, dinners in our favourite restaurants in the area and visiting the many festivals that dot the region in summer.
We stay 20 minutes outside of San Sebastian at a beautiful cliff top campsite overlooking the surf beach of Zarautz. As far as surf goes, well we’re only a hop skip and a jump away from the finest surf beaches in Europe. And if National Geographic says we’re located in one of the World’s Top 20 Surf Towns, well who are we to dispute it!

How many people are there in a tent?
And what amenities are offered at the Beach Camp?
Two of us are vegans, do you cater for this?
What is the address of the camp?
What is the night life like in San Seb?
But what if I can’t visit during June or July? Or Semana Grande?
Me and my boyfriend had a great time surfing in zarautz, the staff were really friendly, and the meals were really generous.
The beach is amazing and it’s a ten minute walk from the camp. This trip was amazing and the place is very beautiful!
We loved the ocean. The lunches and dinners were delicious. Not having to do any work was a nice break. The guys were great about handling the surfboards and making sure i had a beer in my hands.
