Barcelona to La Tomatina 2018

Buñol, Spain

28th - 30th August

RIDE WITH US FROM BARCELONA TO LA TOMATINA 2018

La Tomatina 2018 is Spanish for Effin’ fun! Thousands of people stream to Buñol and cram into the little streets like, well, like squished tomatoes. Some people try to climb a greasy pole to reach a succulent pork, and then the cannons fire and the trucks come. Once the trucks have jammed their way through the crowd and unloaded their tons of soppy tomatoes, the streets go blurry, tomatoes are flung and friendships are founded and toppled in this epic battle.

When the madness is over, we’ll rinse off and head back to our glorious camp by the beach. We’ll spend the afternoon swimming in the sea and drinking deeply of the unlimited beer and sangria. As Official La Tomatina festival partners, we’ll party the night away at the Official La Tomatina After-party!

2-DAY TRIP

PRICE: €220 | US$ 262 | £198 | AU$ 328

Includes: Return transport on the Stoke Travel bus from Barcelona to LA Tomatina, transfers to and from the Tomato fight from the Stoke campsite, Official La Tomatina entry bracelet, 2 nights accommodation at our pretty amazing beach-side campsite in pre-erected twin share tents with mattress and sleeping bag provided, tasty breakfast each morning, hearty dinners, experienced guides to lead you to the mayhem, a Bloody Mary on the morning of La Tomatina Festival, daily beach games and nightly Stoke campsite parties.

We meet on Tuesday at Plaza Catalunya in front of the Hard Rock Cafe for your Barcelona to La Tomatina 2018 trip, where we’ll be departing around 1pm. We will jump on the bus and there you will be introduced to your friendly guides, meet your fellow Stokies, and get into the Tomatina spirit. Once we arrive there is nothing left for you to worry about, apart from having a good time, as everything is taken care of. There will be a bunch of friendly crew to answer all of your questions at the campsite and help you out when necessary. Then let the fun commence with amazing people and great experiences. The bus will leave from the Stoke Travel campsite on Thursday around 1pm and will arrive back in Barcelona around 7pm (don’t make any strict travel plans as that Barcelona traffic can be a pain in the…)

DAY TRIP

We’ll arrive directly in Buñol, the site of the tomato fight, and Stoke will throw you a liter of sangria before the battle for liquid courage! We’ll then venture into the carnage, and after we’re done getting saucy we will head back to our beach-side campsite for a little beach or pool action, and visit or 10 to the Stoke Bar then it’s back on the bus to Barcelona to relative normality!

*Free time options: Suntan, play beach volleyball, practice your Spanish on a local and fail, try to explain French kissing to a Spaniard… And fail… So show them instead. Or maybe rugby, touch rugby, just touching, football, swim, go to Valencia to do a walking tour and take in the sights + sounds of this beautiful city.

  • WHERE THE WILD ORANGES ROAM

We stay just north of Valencia city, in a beach town called Puzol (Puçol in the local lingo – it’s pronounced Puthol though, confusing right?) Puzol is well connected to Valencia city, and we have our own private shuttles for La Tomatina Festival and for visits to town. Puzol is located on a stretch of beautiful Mediterranean beaches and every year we arrive and blow the town’s collective mind.

Our camp is beachside…. you can get out of your tent, make a beeline for the beach and be splashing about within 5 minutes of opening your sangria-soaked eye sockets. The campsite is not wild in the slightest, with full-time security, a bar, restaurant and shop onsite, a great swimming pool with slide, clean amenities, great authentic Spanish atmosphere (it’s not uncommon to be invited into a family’s caravan for a meal of authentic local paella).

And there is so much more to the region outside of the festivities! Valencia has a wonderful old walled city, great modern architecture, clubs, restaurants, beaches and bars. It’s just wonderful! Come and see it! You’re going to love it! We adore it!

    MEET US THERE

    Aeroplanes are fast

Fly to Valencia and then make your way to our camp. A train will take you into the city centre (Estación del Norte) from the airport and another train from there to Puçol. From Puçol, we pick you up, yeah buddy. Check out the little hint below for details of your Valencia – Puçol* commute.

    Trains are simple

It was once considered glamorous to travel by train. These days it’s merely considered to be faster, yet more expensive, than buses and slower, but often cheaper, than planes.
Same deal. Estación del Norte is the main station. Just get a ride to there, jump on a local train to Puçol* and we do the rest.

FOR QUICK, CHEAP AND EASY TRAINS CHECK OUT EUROVENTURE.

    Buses take you places

Same thing again. Just make sure you get a ride to Valencia and not somewhere else, like Palencia, which is on the other side of Spain, but presumably full of pals.

    Valencia to the Campsite:

You buy your ticket to Puzol (Puçol, pronounced ‘Puthol’) from the Main Hall of Estación del Norte. They cost 2 bucks, which is bubblegum money. There are two ticket counters, one air-conditioned glass box that sells long distance trips and one right smack bang in the middle of the main hall that sells short journeys. Puçol is just up the road from Valencia, so make sure you sweat it out in the main hall, OK? The ticket waitress will tell you the platform.

Once you reach Pucol, give us a call on 0034 625 304 703…
We will be doing pick-ups every our from 9am-8pm on the day before La Tomatina. If you arrive on other days or outside these times, you can call us between 9am & 8pm for a pick-up. After that, you just jump in a 5 minute cab. Same deal for if you arrive before 9am or after 8pm.

    Campsite Address:

    Camping Pucol
    Camí Riu Turia 3
    46530
    Puzol Playa

  • Enter all of your questions in the Ask a Question Tab and we’ll answer them here…

Where do the buses from Barcelona leave from and at what time?
All Buses leave and drop off in Front of Hard Rock Cafe in Plaza Catalunya.  The 2 day Ride with us trip leaves Barcelona on 28th August at 1pm, and will leave the Stoke Campsite around 1pm on the 31st arriving in Barcelona at by 7pm (ish).  The Day Trip buses leave Barcelona at 03.30am,  and leave from Bunol at 2pm heading to the Stoke Campsite for some much needed relaxation at the pool, at 7pm we will head back to Barcelona, arriving by around midnight.  Please remember to check in early for buses (45 minutes early) to help us ensure buses leave promptly.  Always turn up with your friends if you want to be on the same bus.

Should I bring a change of clothes?
Yes, especially if you are on the day trip. The bus driver will not let you on in tomato pulp. If you’re not on the day trip, maybe just bring a black plastic bag so they’ll let you on the bus back to camp. Also, be sure to stand directly in front of one of the hose-holding locals and let the beautiful, cold water clean you of excess fruit baggage before you head back towards the bus.

    What else should I bring?
Sunglasses and sunscreen as it gets pretty hot, a pillow and torch for your tent, goggles, condoms, a waterproof camera, swimmers to have a dip in the pool afterwards, old shoes that can be thrown out after the madness, and shampoo if you don’t want your hair stained red for the next month. Oh and don’t forget a towel.

Are the shuttles to and from Tomatina and the other Water & Wine festival included in the price?

Yes & No. The shuttles to and from Tomatina are included. It’s €20 extra for the transportation to and from the Water & Wine fight. We also throw in some boxes of red wine to get you started. Please note the Tomatina ticket is not included in the Meet Us There price, but is €10 extra. This is not our choice! The town council has imposed this extra charge. It is included in the package deals.

Do you provide transport from Valencia centre?
No, but getting to Puzol from Valencia is easy peasy and we pick you up from the train station there. We have set pickup times (9am – 8pm on the hour) and outside of that, just let us know when you are on the train from Valencia’s central station to Puzol and we’ll jump in the car and head over. See how to get there details for more info.

    What is the breakfast like?
Breakfast is bacony and eggy and delicious. Sometimes there’a pancake or two thrown in for good measure. Our chefs are pretty fricking good at food.

Do we have the option of flying to Barcelona and taking one of your buses to the camp site outside of Valencia?
Yes, you absolutely do. You can fly to Barcelona in time for the Ride With Us trip which departs at noon on 30th August and returns 19:00 on 1st September. You can also do the Day Trip from Barcelona, which leaves early in the morning on the day of Tomatina (31st August at 03:30) and returns to Barcelona late afternoon. It just depends on whether you can get cheaper flights to Barcelona or Valencia and if the difference will be less than taking one of our shuttles.

It said on the website that it is a twin tent. Can it fit two people?
Yes, the twin tents are two-man tents. We have two-man tents, so if you are in a group of three, one of you will be tented with a new friend of the same sex. Tents are allocated on arrival, so just let us know your preferences when you arrive. We also have an option to have a private tent for a small additional fee – just in case you don’t want to share…. or if you want to leave space for the hottie you’re going to meet at our campsite… You never know…

And what amenities are offered at the camp site?
The campsite is awesome! It has a giant pool, a playground, a cafe/restaurant, a little shop, hot showers, laundry area, parking, drinkable water, and it’s a five-minute walk from the beach.

Are there lockers where we can put our passports or other important items?
The campsite itself has no lockers, but we a campervan which gets locked every night and we can put small valuables in there during the festival and when we’re away from the campsite.

If someone throws a tomato at my head can I kick them?
Only if you kick them hard in the shins.

Will the tomato be good for my skin?
If by good you mean sting like hell but still be worth it, then yes.

If we are camping does that mean we’ll be attacked by wild animals?
We serve unlimited alcohol at our camps. You, my friend, will be the wild animal.

Are these questions really the most frequently asked?
No, but if you have any specific questions you must email info@stoketravel.com – the guys in the office know absolutely everything about anything.
