San Sebastian Surf And Learn Spanish

Basque Country, Spain

1 June - 30 September

Sure, spending your days surfing the Spanish coast and your nights soaking in sangria sounds wonderful, but why not pair it with something productive? The San Sebastian Surf and Spanish course allows to do all the fun stuff and also learn Spanish, but not in the boring and forgettable classroom way, we’re going to learn Spanish on the beaches and in the Basque hills – sometimes with an after-surf beer in hand. Make your Spanish like your trip – something to enjoy and remember.

At the San Sebastian Surf and Spanish course you’ll sleep in dorm-style accommodation in our converted Basque farmhouse, be fed with healthy, homemade breakfasts, lunches and dinners that cater to all dietary requirements, be offered two-hours of Spanish lessons daily, two-hours of daily surf lessons, daily yoga classes, and plenty of San Sebastian’s famous parties. You can also add unlimited beer, cider and sangria for €10 a day.

Learning a language is daunting! It’s scary finding yourself in a classroom full of strangers, expected to work from textbooks for the first time since high school, and presumed to know not only what a verb is, but what an adverb is, among all the other long-forgotten grammatical terms. For those of us who were happy to leave school behind and don’t really want to go back, especially when we’re on holidays, the San Sebastian Surf and Spanish course is perfect as we’ll be taking the lessons outside, in the rolling Basque hills, on the beach and in the bars – the places where you’re going to want to use your newfound skills in Español. We believe that if your lessons are memorable and fun, then you’ll better hold onto to the skills you’ve learnt, so let’s have fun for a couple of hours a day and at the end of the week watch your Spanish skills soar.

What better compliment to your Spanish lessons than clearing the mind with daily surf sessions, offering you the chance to practice the Spanish you now know with your fellow surfers. There are two hours of surf lessons included every day, catering for all levels of surfing, from beginners to advanced. From where we stay the best surfing beach in the region is just down the hill, you can see it from our kitchen, a great big expanse of sand that is the local for some of Spain’s champions.

Our farmhouse is located in the hills behind San Sebastian, on the outskirts of the traditional Basque village of Aia. In front of our house the hills roll down through fields and farms to give you spectacular views of Zarautz, the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean, and behind the hills rise up into the mountains of the Pagotea National Park, where we hike, and pick mushrooms. This marvellous natural environment is where we will have our Spanish lessons.

The house is where we rest and play and there’s never a shortage of young, cool people from around the world to share a drink with and trade stories about the day’s triumphs and challenges. There will always be an international crowd for you to get to know, across all ages, who have gotten together to surf, travel, eat good food, do yoga, practice Spanish and party. This is a perfect environment for solo travellers and groups, as once you’ve checked in you’re a part of the family, and everything is powered by the optional €10 all-you-can drink beer, sangria and cider bar – just pay the daily fee and help yourself.

From the house you’re able to do day and night trips, to traditional Basque wineries, the cider houses with their endless supply of apple cider, or into San Sebastian city, where the world’s best food and all night parties await us. There are plenty of opportunities to drink away the shyness that’s holding you back from mastering Spanish, and to try your new skills on friendly locals – just make sure you get up to surf and do your Spanish lessons the next day.
