SPRINGFEST, IT’S KINDA LIKE OKTOBERFEST’S COOLER LITTLE SISTER

Oktoberfest is great! But it is in October (and September), and quite frankly some of us can’t be in Munich then, or we can and we want to go to both beer festivals (we want all the beer fests!), or there are some of us who prefer Springfest to Oktoberfest. Springfest is like the cooler little sister, in that it might be smaller, but it’s got a helluva lot going for it that Oktoberfest doesn’t have.

Read more: three big reasons to visit Munich’s Springfest

THE SAME BEERS AS OKTOBERFEST

The same famous German beers that adhere to their “only four ingredients” purity laws (they say that the lack of preservatives in Bavarian beer is why you wake up without a hangover… we suggest that maybe they’re just not drinking enough). But yeah, the beers are the reason why we come to Oktoberfest, but they’re the same at Springfest, with a couple of subtle adjustments for the season. And they’re a little cheaper, sooo….

But it’s not just the beers that are the same. Springfest has beer halls, carnival rides, German oompah drinking bands, the cute/hot/weird traditional outfits (dirndls and lederhosen) and tables upon tables full to the limit with party people enjoying a drink and a boogie. Oh, and Springfest also features the world’s best beer-drinking food, to line the stomach (and satisfy the palette).

MORE LOCALS, LESS TOURISTS

Oktoberfest is famous the world over, and as such attracts millions of beer fans, travellers and party people every year. Springfest is smaller, in that it “only” attracts 100s of 1000s… but the quality of attendee is higher, more locals, more beer aficionados, less drunken uncles on vacation. The locals at Springfest are happy to see us, because we’re not just another tourist at the beer festival, we’re interesting and unique for being there, and so we can join them at their tables, cheers them, dance with them, and make cute German friends for life.

STOKE IS SPRINGFEST’S BIGGEST GROUP

By far. Nobody throws a Springfest party like we do, and you’ll be staying with 100s of like-minded travellers and study abroad students who are there to do the exact same thing as you – th quite simply have the absolute best time possible. At Stoke we have absolutely everything you need onsite, we have your camping accommodation with sleeping mats and bags (and there are glamping upgrades available), we have a full kitchen preparing hot breakfasts and dinners every day, beer bongs and beer pong tables, our infamous Wheel of Misfortune, bands, DJs and entertainers, a huge dance floor and, the most important thing, our completely open and unlimited beer and sangria bar to get you nicely prepared for your day in the beer halls, or to help you continue the party when you return to the campsite. Stoke Travel at Springfest is an experience in itself that you won’t see anywhere else.

  • Munich, Germany.

The Springfest grounds (Theresienwiese) are located in the centre of Munich. This is where you will find the beer halls, fun fair rides and glorious Bavarian food.

The Stoke campground is located only 20 minutes away from the madness. We head to the festival every day on cheap and easy public transport, which picks us up directly in front of the campsite and drops us into central Munich, all day every day. Our Stoke guides are there to get you into the party and point you in the direction of that beautiful Bavarian beer.

    Address:

    Campingplatz Obermenzing
    59 Lochhausner Strasse
    Munich
    Germany

Once you’ve made it to Munich

    Metro directions to campsite
From Hauptbahnhof, or any Munich metro station, take the underground S2 towards Peterhausen and jump off at Untermenzing. Right outside the station hop on the 164 bus for three stops to Campingplatz Obermenzing. Just ask the driver or have a look on the bus route map. Jump off the bus and you’re at our doorstep. Too easy!

    Metro directions from the airport
It’s very easy to get to the campsite from Munich Flughafen airport. Follow the signs in the airport to the train station. Then take the S1 underground to Laim, at Laim change over to the S2 in the direction of Peterhausen, getting off at Untermenzing. You then head out of the station to the bus stop and take the 164 bus which stops at the camping grounds: Campingplatz Obermenzing.

    Actually getting to Munich

Check out GoEuro for the best rates on buses, trains, and flights around Europe.

Train it, of course its efficient.

All trains entering Munich come in to the city’s centrally-located main station (Hauptbahnhof), which is shared by the city’s rail and bus systems, providing connections to all destinations within the city and around the region. High-speed InterCity Express (ICE) trains from Hamburg, Frankfurt and Augsburg provide rapid service to Munich. The City Nightline (CNL) features comfortable sleeping quarters on its overnight services. The Deutsche Bahn has more than 25,000 miles of track, connecting all points in Germany, with international service as well. If your travel originates in the UK, British Rail has four daily scheduled trains to Munich and from Zurich, there is daily service on the train called the Bavaria. It’s very easy to get to the campsite from the train station, just follow the metro directions below.

    Buses are the bestest.

You can travel by bus to Munich from London, Paris and many other European cities. The largest bus operator from the UK to the continent is Eurolines, operating out of London’s centrally located Victoria Coach Station. In Paris, Eurolines is located on rue Malmaison, a 35-minute Metro ride from the centre. In Munich, bus services usually terminate at the Zentraler Busbahnhof, which you will find on the north side of the Hauptbahnhof. It’s very easy to get to the campsite from the bus station, just follow the metro directions below.

    Wicked campers

The most WICKED, literally, way to get to Oktoberfest is in a Wicked Campervan. We have reserved spots for Wicked vans within the campsite. Check out www.wickedcampers.co.uk
Please note that if you are coming by car, there is very limited parking at the campsite, so you will need to park down the road about a 1 minute drive away.

  • Questions and queries? Ask away. Enter in the Ask a Question tab and we will try to come up with something helpful here.

    What should I bring?
Warm clothes to sleep in, a pillow and torch for your tent, something awesome to party in, condoms (better safe than sorry) and a camera!

Do I need a separate ticket to enter the beerhalls?
Nope. You just turn up and drink! Your purchase with us gets you accommodation in our campground. And access to our bar (for €10 per day). And contact with our beautiful people (no extra fee).

Are there shuttles to and from Springfest?
No but our guides will take you on public transport so you don’t get lost, just don’t stray too far. We find that no matter how many steins one has consumed, miraculously most of our guests come back safe and sound. Munich’s cheap and easy buses and metro leave from the festival and takes you back to the campsite all day everyday.

Do you provide transport from Munich centre?
No, but getting around town is easypeasy thanks to Germany’s efficient transport system. Check out the ‘How to get there’ section for address and direction details.

Who do we see when we arrive?
Check in at Stoke Reception tent for your tent allocation and orientation. The reception is open weekday mornings at 9am until midnight and weekends, 8am until 1am.

    What is the breakfast like?
Breakfast is baconny and eggy and delicious. Sometimes there’s a pancake or two thrown in. Our chefs are very talented.

How many people can fit in the tents?
We have two-man tents and 8 man teepees. Just let us know your preferences on arrival and we’ll do our best to allocate you the tent you would like (subject to availability). If you’re a group of 3, one of you will be paired with a new friend of the same sex. For those anti-social humans, we offer private tents for a small additional fee. We understand our guests’ needs…… a little extra room for a special someone if the night leads there.

What amenities are offered at the camp site?
The campsite offers spacious bathrooms and hot showers for a 1€ token purchased at reception, restaurant/cafe, vending machines, the best Schnitzel food cart in the world and a little essentials store. WiFi and charging stations are available in certain areas and tokens are sold at the campsite reception for laundry facilities.

Where can we buy Lederhosen and Dirndls?
We sell traditional festival costumes – you can pre-order these or add them to your booking onsite, as well as awesomely stylish Stoke hoodies, tee- shirts, beanies and knick-knacks.

If we are camping does that mean we’ll be attacked by wild animals?
We serve unlimited alcohol at our camps. You, my friend, will be the wild animal.

    Where is Starbucks?
Near Haupthbhanof in Zentrum of Munich, there are plenty.

    Are there lockers?
Yes there are lockers, however there is only a limited number and they are allocated on a first come first serve basis. We will be selling locks at the campsite for €5, which you will be able to use to secure your bag or your tent.

    Will there be showers?
Yes there are showers at the campsite, that are cleaned daily. You are able to purchase a hot water token for €1, which will gives you 6 minutes of hot water.

I will be arriving outside reception hours, can I still check in?
there will be no problem checking you guys in after reception hours as we will still have staff and security around to help you check-in and find your way around our campsite.

Do you have any photo’s of the Dirndls and Lederhosen you’re selling?
At the moment we don’t have any photos, however we offer a large selection of traditional lederhosen and dirndl’s with an abundance of sizes and designs to choose from. Due to this I’m sure you won’t have any trouble finding a size and style to suit your personal taste.
